Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit

We encourage all employees to serve the communities where they live and work. Employees actively participate in our philanthropic efforts and often take the initiative to sponsor their own acts of kindness. Cottage supports their individual charitable endeavors by giving employees time off, providing financial resources and helping to enlist the support of fellow employees. Our employees give back not only to the community, but to the very hospitals where they work. Cottage Employees Give UPDATED: In 2018-2019, employees donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities. During the recent United Way campaign, Live United, a record 680 Cottage employees donated more than $150,000. Cottage employees also recently donated more than $112,000 to Cottage Health to support the health of others apart from their jobs. United Way Fun in the Sun UPDATED: More than 100 local children visited SBCH over three days of Fun in the Sun, sponsored by the United Way of Santa Barbara County, to enjoy hospital tours and lunch with Cottage volunteers. The kids loved the imaging demonstration with x-rayed toys, the freezer tour, the K-9 security demonstration, visiting the helipad and learning about different roles in a hospital. This year more than 100 students participated in Lunch Bunch. In the past 16 years, our employees have helped more than 4,000 children and families in five cities from Carpinteria to Guadalupe. United Way Day of Caring United Way of Santa Barbara County brings together community members each year for a Day of Caring, Service and Development. Cottage Health employees and their families have formed teams to support projects including beach cleanup, landscaping, building picnic tables and performing light maintenance. In addition to the grassroots efforts of our employees—volunteering for United Way, in local schools, in our own pet therapy program and on various fundraising teams for health-related charity walks, runs, hikes and cycling events—Cottage sponsors countless other system wide programs. Some of our philanthropic programs are listed below. Philanthropy UPDATED: Through charity care, shortfalls in government reimbursement and a broad array of community programs, Cottage Health provided more than $200 million in 2018 for the benefit of those in need. 6.35 Please briefly describe your organization’s philanthropic, environmental, or other corporate social responsibility initiatives, focusing on how employees participate in and/or derive value from these efforts. 115/119 Start | Contents | Highlights | Business Description | Hiring & Welcoming | Inspiring | Speaking | Listening | Thanking | Developing | Caring | Celebrating | Sharing • Sharing 6.35
