Family Service Agency (FSA) School-Based Mental Health (Expanded) $100,000 Partner: Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) This program expands school-based counseling to high schools, as previously therapeutic counseling only took place in elementary schools and one junior high school. FSA therapists provide mental-health assessment services, weekly school-based therapeutic counseling, and referrals to school and community- based interventions. Receiving referrals from SBUSD guidance counselors, teachers and administrators, therapists assess students and determine the right course of action for each individual—social-emotional counseling, drug and/or alcohol counseling, weekly therapeutic counseling, or treatment-indicated intervention by a medical doctor. 5. Mental Wellness Center Youth Mental Wellness Coalition $25,000 This coalition focuses on developing and implementing an effective, community-based mental health plan to connect youth ages 12 through 26 and their families to mental wellness resources and support before a crisis. Seeking to affect systemic change, the coalition is working to improve communication and outreach between secondary schools and local mental health agencies through centralized tools and resources as well as educational opportunities for parents, youth, and school staff. As a new coalition, the group is also working to establish a leadership structure and develop shared responsibility among stakeholders for the success of the coalition’s work. 6. Pacific Pride Foundation (PPF) Counseling for LGBTQ+/HIV Communities $44,340 Partner: Antioch University In collaboration with Antioch University, this program expands counseling services to the LGBTQ+ community through additional individual and group therapy sessions, plus a new LGBTQ+ identity group. Three new training sessions are being offered on LGBTQ+ mental health issues for faculty and students from Antioch and other universities, PPF interns, and community mental health professionals. Topics include somatic psychology, attachment, family systems, elders, and teaching LGBTQ+ psychology. 7. Santa Barbara Alliance for Community Transformation (SB ACT) Westside Health Collaborative $56,500 Partners: Harding University Partnership School & Family Service Agency The Westside Health Collaborative is joining with Harding University Partnership School, a school of more than 400 students in kindergarten through sixth grade, to expand on-site behavioral health services. Using a tiered approach, the program brings universal/school-wide supports to all students through staff trainings to help develop programs for trauma related to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). In addition, a trained counselor offers group-counseling sessions for high-risk students to two groups: a group of 3rd and 4th grade students and a group of 5th and 6th graders. 8. Santa Barbara County Education Office Welcome Every Baby Program (WEB) $100,000 Partners: Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Lompoc Valley Medical Center, Carpinteria Children’s Project, Isla Vista Youth Projects, Family Service Agency, Child Abuse Listening Mediation, Tri- Counties Regional Center, Alpha Resource Center, Postpartum Education for Parents & Breast feeding Coalition WEB offers home-visits by a registered nurse within 48 hours of hospital discharge to all families with newborns using the evidence- based Family Connect model. Home-visits include behavioral health assessments, education, and referrals to services. Through a two- generational approach supporting children and their parents, nurses assess for risk of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, substance abuse, partner violence issues, social isolation/lack of support for role as mother, and symptoms of post-partum depression.
