Cottage Health 2019 Culture Audit

Supplemental Materials Nursing Excellence 2016 PDF Nursing Excellence An annual publication that recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of Cottage Health nurses, Nursing Excellence recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. “Dear Nursing Colleagues, It is hard to believe this is our tenth anniversary of Nursing Excellence, celebrating 2017 as an amazing year for nursing accomplishments. We took our biannual Employee Engagement Survey and scored at the 99th percentile for the western five states – indicating that our employees think Cottage Health is a great place to work. The Magnet Component committees act as another extension of Shared Governance by using the Magnet Framework and applying all of our achievements as a nursing division. The accomplishments are outstanding. They include designing a new care board for the system, using best practices, patient feedback, and evidence from literature. We created an orientation resource for new nursing managers, revised our nursing peer evaluations, created a nursing presence on the external website, and worked with Population Health. We took our biannual NDNQI survey and validated, once again, that our RN Professional Enjoyment score is higher than the Magnet Mean across the country.” – Herb Geary, Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer Shared Governance Shared Governance cultivates an openness that has become intrinsic to who we are. Our systemwide Shared Governance events offer employees direct dialogue with our CEO and executive team. Executives participate in team-building exercises with employees to foster collegiality and collaboration. Bright Spots To foster a culture of safety Cottage Health celebrates improvements, teaches by example, defers to expertise over hierarchy, and offers tools for success. One example is through interviews with employees and collecting data of best practices to help employees better solve problems, improve safety, teamwork and feel empowered to report errors and potential for errors. Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital – Crucial Conversations Superusers This peer-based program began when studies showed problems in communication with no resolution. To solve this problem, transdisciplinary, non-management coaches were chosen who modeled crucial conversations with consistent and clarifying communications and had others spread the word. Rounding Management and leadership walk the units to round with staff in their respective areas. The focus of rounding is to ensure employees have the tools they need to do their jobs and to learn what is working well and what could be better. There is always an Administrator on Call and the schedule is shared with all employees. 10 A N N I V E R S A R Y 2017 NURSING EXCELLENCE nursing excellence 2016 1888 SANTA BARBARA COTTAGEHOSPITAL FOUNDED 51/94 Start | Contents | Highlights | General Information | Hiring & Welcoming | Inspiring | Speaking | Listening | Thanking | Developing | Caring | Celebrating | Sharing • Speaking 6.26
