We have one particular patient who may come into the Emergency Department a few times a day and on occasion 4 to 6 times in a week. He may have some minor complaints or at times just wants food, a place to sleep or to watch the television. We were able to transfer this patient to a skilled nursing facility. Prior to the transfer, Taylor took it upon himself to shower, shave and cut the patient’s hair. I have never seen this man so clean or happy. When he left, he even said he loved us. Thank you Taylor for your compassion.” Nominee: Skyler Gould, Security “We had a patient who was found in the bushes, and we all pitched in to get him dry and warm again. Skyler kept him calm so we could treat him and then took his clothes to be laundered so he could have something to change into when he was ready to leave. Skyler has a way of connecting in a compassionate way that respects a patient’s dignity. He is kind while keeping patients and staff safe. It does sometimes take a village to help someone. It really is gratifying to have such a great approach by those who watch and protect our patients and the staff.” Nominee: David Linzey, Emergency Department “David went above and beyond for a homeless patient who was being discharged to PATH. Patient had belongings that were too large to fit into the cab taking the patient there. David volunteered to take the belongings to PATH after he clocked out from his shift to ensure the patient kept all his belongings with him.” Nominee: Kenneth Lopez, Printing & Duplicating “Recently, the marketing department has been relying more and more on Kenny’s help with printing materials. There have been several projects outside the scope of Duplicating’s capabilities but instead of turning down the requests, Kenny has taken it upon himself to learn how to print them. For example, he was asked to print booklets given to every attendee at a Cottage Symposium. Although the copy machine supplier said the machine doesn’t have the capability, Kenny took time to research how to get around the machine’s limitations. He now prints all of the attendee booklets for every symposium and in doing so, has saved Cottage thousands of dollars in printing costs. There have been several projects where the copy machine was distorting colors but again, he researched how to tweak the settings so the colors printed correctly. These are just two examples of many. Kenny is a true pleasure to work with and a great extension to our team. He continues to go above and beyond and truly exemplifies excellence.” Nominee: Brittany Thornton, Pulmonary & Renal “A patient with a limited hearing walked into the hall complaining of noise he was hearing and asked if he could get another room. Brittany came right away and started writing him notes letting him know we didn’t have any empty rooms to move him to right away. He agreed to stay in his room until another room was made available. It was the middle of the night. Brittany asked him if he was hungry and he said yes, so she went down to the vending machine and got him cookies and milk. He was so happy in his bed eating cookies. Later on he went into the hallway and she asked him if he wanted to sit with us. He said yes, so she brought his recliner chair out to the hall and he was so content and happy just sitting quietly.
