Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit

Population Health Slides PDF Supplemental Materials The Cottage Health culture of open communication and transparency enables employees to not only safely express their ideas and feedback but to also feel heard and valued by doing so. Ideas and feedback are exchanged among employees, managers and senior leaders every day in a variety of ways. A few of these are: face-to-face interactions, staff meetings and rounding on units, employee surveys, Shared Governance Voice Forms, Good Catches Program, Safety Huddle, Administrator on Call, employee forums with the CEO, executive emails, Magnet posters, a collaborative CottageOne model, steering committees and employee input. 6.27 What practices do you have in place to ensure that employees can openly share information and ask questions of their managers and senior leaders? Population Health & Employee Resource Connect – Surveys Led to New Program NEW: Population Health is an initiative created to improve the health outcomes of our communities by keeping people healthy and helping prevent unnecessary illness and more expensive health care. As part of Population Health, Employee Resource Connect was created to address the needs of our employees. During annual health screenings, employees are asked to complete a quick, confidential survey to identify whether they are in need of adequate food, housing, transportation or behavioral health care. If they are, and they request assistance, resources are offered to help address their identified needs. This led to the Employee Food Program: Data from the initial implementation of Cottage Health’s Employee Resource Connect program revealed that 18% of employees struggle with at least one social need (i.e., food, transportation, or housing). Food was identified as the most common need. In response to these results, the Employee Resource Connect workgroup developed a food program. Employees who screen positive for food insecurity are eligible to participate in the new food program. If they choose to participate, $50 is loaded onto their employee badge to be used at the Cottage Cafeterias, Cottage Café, Park Place Deli and onsite weekly farmer’s market. They also receive support from a Family Service Agency advocate to assist with identifying long-term solutions to food needs, which may include additional financial support. By opting in, employees agree to share their employee ID with Cottage Nutrition Services and Payroll departments for the purpose of transferring money onto employee badges. No one else within Cottage Health has access to screening results. Employees can only take advantage of this benefit once in a calendar year. “This is such an important project. I wonder how many employees realize their own co-workers may be struggling with these things.” – Employee “I am beyond touched that Cottage is taking the time to ask these questions and make connections for employees. Not every employer would go to these lengths to help the employees they can see are struggling. I’m so proud to work here!” – Employee “This is simply the right thing to do for our employees. We can’t stop after the pilot. If we have even four employees struggling with something like food insecurity, that’s four too many.” – Employee Health Nurse 67/119 Start | Contents | Highlights | Business Description | Hiring & Welcoming | Inspiring | Speaking | Listening | Thanking | Developing | Caring | Celebrating | Sharing • Listening 6.27
