Supplemental Materials Slides: Journey to high Reliability PDF Employee Resource Connect UPDATED: This program was created to address the needs of our employees. During health screenings, employees are asked to complete a quick, confidential survey to identify whether they need food, housing, transportation or behavioral health care. If they do and request assistance, resources are offered to help. The new Employee Food Program provides $50 on their badges for meals. Patient Resource Connect NEW: The pilot program surveyed 796 emergency department patients to identify their need for food, housing, transportation or behavioral health care. Of the 178 screening positive for a need, 49% requested and received assistance. Collaborative Research Projects Underway at the Santa Barbara Cottage Research Institute Cardiology NEW: Title: WATCH-TAVR PIs: Joseph Aragon, MD, Colin Shafer, MD The WATCH-TAVR study is a clinical trial for patients who have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and aortic stenosis requiring a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The purpose of the study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the left atrial appendage occlusion with WATCHMAN Device at the same time as the TAVR procedure, compared to anti-coagulant treatment, in preventing stroke and bleeding episodes for these patients. Note : Cottage has the highest enrollment (number of patients who are participating) in the state of CA and the 4th highest enrollment in the country. Cottage has performed more than 300 TAVR procedures to date. Neurology NEW: Title: WEAVE trial (Wingspan Stent System Post Market Surveillance) PIs: Alois Zauner, MD The WEAVE trial (Wingspan Stent System Post Market Surveillance) is a post market surveillance trial mandated by the Food and Drug Administration to assess the periprocedural safety of the Wingspan Stent system in the treatment of symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic disease. • Link to publication - https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/STROKEAHA.118.023996 • Cottage enrolled 30 of the 152 patients who participated in the trial. Pediatrics NEW: Title: Improving Outcomes for Very Low Birth Weight Infants (VLBW) PIs: Steve Barkley, MD, Kathy Chung, MD, Jennifer Ferrick, RN, Tricia Miller, PhD, George Singer, PhD (UCSB) The Neonatal Intensive Care Program at Cottage Children’s Medical Center (CCMC), in collaboration with UCSB researchers propose to implement a multiple component Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program designed to improve outcomes for premature and ill infants and their families served in the Unit. The project will focus on introducing and adopting a set of best practices that have been developed for the treatment of very low birth weight infants (VLBW) and for providing psychosocial support for the families of the infants served in the NICU.
