Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit

Robotic Assisted Gait Training in Individuals after Acute Stroke NEW: The main purpose of the study is to prove that stroke patients receiving standard Physical Therapy and Robotic Assisted Gait Training will demonstrate decreased risk for falls and increased daily activity levels, gait speed, and walking endurance. This will be done by exploring the correlation between the number of steps taken in and out of an Ekso apparatus (an exoskeleton suit with battery-powered motors at the hip and knee joints to help patients regain the ability to walk). Pilot Study of Cadence, a Novel Assistive Show for Populations with Drop-Foot NEW: Dropfoot is a condition that is common in patients with neurological injuries such as cerebral palsy and stroke that make it difficult to clear the floor while walking. This study explores the effects of a new shoe designed for patients with drop-foot. The shoe has been designed to promote the rhythmicity of walking by removing the constraint induced by the walking surface. The study hypothesizes that participants will be able to adopt a more rhythmic gait and increase walking speed and gait frequency. This pilot data will be used to seek further funding to study the rehabilitative effects of wearing this device long term. New Health Care Phone App a Potential Game Changer: Cottage Health, UCSB and Stanford Collaborate to Create New Smartphone App to Quickly ID Bacteria NEW: SBCH physicians Jeffrey Fried, M.D., Lynn Fitzgibbons, M.D. and CH scientists Andrea Zambrano, M.D. and Jane Choe worked with scientists from the other institutions for the study “Smartphone-based pathogen diagnosis in urinary sepsis patients” that was published in the journal EbioMedicine. The goal of the study was to develop rapid, low-cost diagnostics that can be used by health care providers anywhere in the world to diagnose bacterial infections. All that is needed for the process is a small volume of the patient’s urine, which is analyzed by the free smartphone app using the phone’s camera and a lab kit, that can be produced for less than $100. 77/119 Start | Contents | Highlights | Business Description | Hiring & Welcoming | Inspiring | Speaking | Listening | Thanking | Developing | Caring | Celebrating | Sharing • Listening 6.28
