Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit

National Hospital Week During National Hospital Week in May, we pause and take the time to show our appreciation for each other and the work we all do toward achieving our mission and vision. The week kicks off with a gift to employees and continues throughout the week with ice cream socials for all shifts, at all locations. Annual Remembrance Ceremony The work we do at end of life is equally important to our employees, and each year the hospital hosts a Remembrance Ceremony, inviting families and caregivers for a special event to honor loved ones they have lost. The hospitals also have broadened their use of a ceremonial closure to support families coping with death. The program was created and implemented by a group of bedside nurses after extensive collaboration with our research team. For their innovative work, the group received a “Hospital Hero Award” from the Hospital Association of Southern California. Your selfless response in caring for our community and each other on that day one year ago and your commitment in the days since has been an inspiration for us all. On 1/9 at 8:30 am, overhead chimes will sound in remembrance. Also at sunset on the 8th through the 9th, we will light the fig tree at SBCH as a symbol of hope, resiliency and growth. Some individuals may want space for moments of quiet remembrance. As always, please feel free to visit any of the Sacred Spaces or garden areas and use them as a haven to reflect. For those who wish to gather with community members, all are invited to Raising Our Light: An Evening of Remembrance in Montecito on January 9. The community will gather in Lower Manning Park at 6 pm for a short program at 6:30, leading into a candlelit walk down San Ysidro Road to All-Saints-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, where a bell ceremony and soup will be offered. The event is a collaboration of many partner organizations, including Cottage Health, and is intended to be a night of healing with one another. Your extraordinary efforts to care for our community have been recognized by California Hospital Association, which selected the health care heroes of the California Wildfires for its highest honor – the Award of Merit. CHA extends its gratitude and a special video message of thanks to all of you. As we remember those who were lost, those who survived, and those who responded with kindness and care, please support each other in whatever way is needed on this day. I sincerely thank you.
