Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit

President and CEO, Ron Werft introduced three special honorees for their service of 45, 50 and 65 years. In his words: For 45 Years: Now I’d like to honor one employee with 45 years of service. Sandi Hazard- Marotto, would you join me up here? The year 1973 was a big year. It was the year Sandi started work at Cottage, and the year the first handheld mobile phone call was made. A fifth generation Santa Barbaran, Sandi discovered her calling at an early age. (It wasn’t on a mobile phone.) After high school, Sandi completed the nursing program at SBCC, passed her boards and was hired by Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Ten years later, she went back to school while working full time and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management. Sandi co-founded Cottage’s pet therapy program in 1989, at a time when pet therapy was a relatively new concept in medicine. Her Samoyed, Silk, was the first canine volunteer. Sandi is grateful to her Cottage staff who make her job “so rewarding and fun.” She also expresses thanks her supportive husband, and special gratitude for his culinary talent. Thank you, Sandi for your 45 years of service. Cottage Health is honored you are part of the team. For 50 Years: Moises Placencia began working at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital in 1968, just a few years after it had opened. That also happens to be the year when the emergency 9-1-1 service started. As a surgical tech Moises has helped countless patients in emergencies and other situations over his decades of service. Moises, would you come up on stage? We are so grateful for you and your dedicated service. Moises began his career in the housekeeping department and within a year became an orderly in the operating room, learning about the surgical instruments. Moises’ talents in the operating room caught the attention of the surgeons at GVCH, and they encouraged and supported his becoming a surgical technician. Moises trained for the job and has been scrubbing in ever since. Moises and his wife, Maria, have been married 46 years. Their four children were born at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital, as were his eight grandchildren. He and Maria also have two great grandchildren, ages four and two, who were born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. It’s an honor to count Moises among the Cottage family. Thank you, Moises for your 50 years of service. For 65 Years: Jenny Cue began working at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in 1953. We can all just take a moment and say, ‘Wow.’ An interesting fact about that year is that the NBA champions were the Minneapolis Lakers, because they were seven years away from moving to L.A. We can talk more about that later. I am so privileged to honor Jenny and her 65 years of incredible service to Cottage Health. Jenny Cue, please join me on stage. Juana “Jenny” Cue has had 65 years of extraordinary service at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Jenny joined SBCH in the linen processing department in 1953. In the early 1990s, Jenny was trained in the sterile processing department to wrap linen and basins for sterilization. She transferred permanently to sterile processing department in 2011. Jenny is the proud mother of three, grandmother of three and great grandmother of eight — all three generations were born at Cottage. Cottage Health honors Jenny and we are grateful for her remarkable 65 years of service. Thank you. 81/119 Start | Contents | Highlights | Business Description | Hiring & Welcoming | Inspiring | Speaking | Listening | Thanking | Developing | Caring | Celebrating | Sharing • Thanking 6.29
