Cottage Health 2020 Culture Audit

Cottage works hard to support employees who experience significant life events. In addition to providing support to our employees in their charitable endeavors and life celebrations, we also provide a safety net when employees experience personal difficulties. Our programs to support employees during significant life events include: PTO Donation and Cash Out Programs Our unique PTO donation program allows employees to donate their PTO to employees who experience catastrophic events. Faced with the unexpected loss of a spouse and having a small child, an employee needed time off to make funeral arrangements and plan for her future. Our Employee Assistance Program provided grief counseling to her and her family and her coworkers donated more than 200 hours (25 days) of PTO to her. In instances where employees suffer a significant life event, they may cash out their accrued PTO to assist in meeting their financial needs in time of crisis. Bereavement Leave We provide employees with up to 24 hours of bereavement leave after the death of a close family member (spouse, child, parent, grandparent, or other family member living in the same residence). 6.31 How does your company support employees at times of significant life events — a personal crisis, family illness, birth, marriage, etc.? Spiritual Care and Employee Assistance Program In addition to a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP), we have a spiritual care team on campus that offers support to employees and their families. We have onsite Sacred Spaces at our Santa Barbara and Goleta hospitals that are open to employees. Our EAP provides four free counseling sessions to employees and our Wellness benefit program covers referrals beyond those sessions. The EAP offered by Cottage Health is also contracted for use by other businesses in our community to support their employees. Childbirth, Breastfeeding and Lactation Support Employees and their families may take advantage of Childbirth Education classes to help prepare them for the arrival of a new baby. In addition to sibling preparation and grandparenting classes, specially trained RNs provide support during breast feeding and maternity classes. Other programs include the Mother’s Circle Breastfeeding Support Group and Lactation Center’s Warm Line. CH supports breast feeding and offers private and convenient breast milk pump locations for our new mothers returning to work. Chronic Condition Coaching Care coordinators offer employees and covered family members personal chronic condition coaching for those diagnosed with asthma, COPD, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease and diabetes. Long-Term Sick Leave Long-Term Sick Leave (LTSL) account is used to compensate eligible employees when time off is needed due to illness and/ or injury of the employee, including during pregnancy disability leave, or in order to attend to an illness of an immediate family member. For any unscheduled absence (or the waiting period during a leave of absence), unscheduled PTO is used for the first 16 hours absent, then LTSL hours are used afterwards. LTSL hours are accrued based on the number of hours worked in a pay period. 107/119 Start | Contents | Highlights | Business Description | Hiring & Welcoming | Inspiring | Speaking | Listening | Thanking | Developing | Caring | Celebrating | Sharing • Caring 6.31
