Employee Health & Safety UPDATED: New Employees are introduced to the Employee Health & Safety Department that manages a comprehensive, caring approach to workplace safety and maintains records to ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations. Annual Health Screening Employee Health & Safety provides tuberculosis (TB) screening and offers immunization status review annually to all employees. Respirator fit testing is provided for employees who work near patients or enter isolation rooms. Exposures Employee Health & Safety ensures prompt care and follow-up for infectious disease exposures, including blood-borne pathogens exposures. Immunizations and Surveillance UPDATED: With mobile flu clinics that bring immunizations to different departments, Employee Health & Safety (EH&S) provides immunizations and surveillance programs to employees in accordance with regulatory requirements and CDC recommendations. Flu vaccinations are offered at no cost to every employee, to protect both employee and patient health. During the 2018 – 2019 flu vaccination campaign, the Cottage Health EH&S team vaccinated 3,545 employees and achieved a 98.7% compliance rate. Cottage partners with the Santa Barbara County Health Department to help monitor and mitigate the spread of communicable disease within the community. This year, that included alerts and instructions for potential measles outbreaks. During the recent Ebola crisis, Cottage Health took a leading role in response preparation, and employees proactively volunteered for medical response teams requiring extensive training. Our Infection Control and Prevention team ensured employees had the appropriate training and protective equipment needed to be ready for response. Leaves of Absence and Reasonable Accommodation Employee Health & Safety coordinates leaves of absence and accommodations for employees in compliance with state and federal law, and last year implemented a new program to increase temporary alternative work placements to allow employees to continue contributing to Cottage Health in alternative roles when appropriate. Workers’ Compensation Employee Health & Safety manages Cottage Health’s self-insured Workers’ Compensation Program and provides case management to injured employees. We coordinate work-related injury and illness prevention efforts.
